The book that's my personal favorite on recovery from sex addiction is Breaking Free, by Russ Willingham; we use this book in the Strength in Numbers groups. Breaking Free gets into heart issues, such as Father Wounds and he delves into grace.

Pure Desire, by Ted Roberts is also a good book.

Okay, we need a women's persepctive here! I loved reading "Breaking Free' because it helped me understand my husband's struggles better. It is written in plain, easy-to-read language and it really does talk about what goes in a wounded man's heart and mind. The author puts things into words that my husband could not tell me with his own words.

From a wife's perspective, I grew so much from reading "An Affair of the Mind" by Laurie Hall. You hear about Laurie's story and how God lead her to find new hope and true healing from her husband's addiction. The book also addresses how real porn and sex addiction are in the church. I came away feeling so validated and understood!

I read an Affair of the Mind in 1999 when I was just breaking out of sex addiction. Laurie Hall's book helped me see that damage I'd been doing to my family - and how self centered I'd become.

Hi my friends,

I am new here, and this is my first post.  Thank you so much for this website and forum! :)

I have read, and heavily underlined, a book by the same title by Beth Moore.  I have no doubt that the Breaking Free book you mention here is just as valuable.

In the case of the Beth Moore book, the workbook edition is a ladies' Bible Study; however, the book format is for men and women both.  It addresses any kind of bondage to sin, not sexual addiction in particular.  One of the key Scriptures to the study is Isaiah 61:1-3.

Bro. Paul,

It does feel free to be free, doesn't it? Not that you are entirely out of the woods but you know where your help comes from. And you know there are people who are in your corner, not judging you. The church need to stop being sanctified and holier than thou and be real. Too many saved men who love the Lord are suffering in bondage, afraid to "come out of the closet" of sins and preversion.

My pastor on yesterday spoke about the children of Israel coming out of slavery only to never be free from slavery because their mindset was never changed. So they wondered around in the wilderness of sin and set backs for fourty years. Then when they finally reached the "promiseland" the land that they only had to prosess, because it was already given to them, ten of the twelve came back with the slave mentality,"an evil report". They missed their true deliverance and chance to be truly free. Hang in there, Paul. You will make it..just believe and receive. Jake c

Hi Jake,

Yes, your pastor is right on target.  We have to let go of the slave mentality, and walk in the freedom that is OURS, because Christ has purchsed our freedom already!

The slave mentality tells us to revert to old behavior every time we are discouraged or the going gets tough.  GOD says he is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  GOD says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Thanks for the good word.
