This is mostly for the wives:

I am currently reading, "Captivating"  by John & Stasi Eldridge.

There is no other book like it about being a Christian woman.   It is perfect for those of us terribly devastated by husbands addicted to sex and pornography.  It would also give the husbands great insight as to how a woman's heart works, and just how deeply we feel the pain of having an addicted spouse.  It has taken me several months to get through and I'm still not finished.  It made me take such a deep look at myself, that I just had to stop reading for a while, b/c it was so painful.   However, it is well worth it.

It helps you to understand that you are not the only woman out there who feels the things you do.  For so long I thought something was terribly wrong with me, b/c of the things I felt.  Now,  I know I'm normal,  this is how God made us.  Instead of running from it, I can now embrace it and embrace God's love.

I saw this and just wanted to bump it.  I read this recommendation some time ago, but did not think much about it.  Then I was at Wal-Mart and saw the book.  I remembered this thread and I grabbed the book.
I am several chapters in and I just want to say to any woman who is feeling shattered by her husband's use of porn or whatever, that this book is absolutely beyond description.

It takes women to those wounds of her past that really changed us.  Changed us into something we were never meant to be LONG BEFORE we met our husbands.  I am finding that a great deal of my sense of shock and shattering at what my husband has done is related to those wounds, and related (for me) to the fact that I was putting too much stock in identifying myself THROUGH MY HUSBAND.  I was "his wife"  "their mother" and have not been first and foremost "GOD's DAUGHTER".  Had I been in the place of being the daughter of the Most High God, then MY HUSBANDS SIN AND FAILING would not have shattered me as it has.  I would have been hurt, yes, but still secure in my place as God's Daughter.

This book is teaching me for the first time about really HOW, HOW do you heal those wounds from childhood and learn that you are first and foremost a DAUGHTER OF GOD.

If you were hurt as a girl, or as a young woman, and you doubt your true value in the LORD, if you really wonder "who am I to you, God?"  "what do you see when you look at me?"  If you grapple with this and have never been secure in WHO YOU REALLY ARE IN CHRIST, I absolutely recommend this book!

Really good feedback Quiverof4!  I think it's time for me to go back and read it again!  You really spoke to my heart in how you shared here!  Thanks!  ;)
