Before I saw any visual porn, my introduction to it was unfortunately through novels, aged 8-11. A certain writer - no names to mention - very literary and for the most part all right except for about two or three very explicit passages in them which at pre-puberty, I was looking for, thumbing the pages. I won't give the writer any advertising here. I thought I'd mention this subject because I became obsessed by novels as an adult with such material in them and spent many wasted hours combing library shelves for them.

According to my counselor, such early exposure is beyond a child's ability to process, and, if no help is received, he/she most often has normal childhood development short-cutted, and obsesses on sexual things. True for me, in any case. I did the same - spent lots of time in the library when I was supposedly doing a book report checking out medical texts, novels, etc., for everything I could find about sex. At age 9 or 10, I was reading at a high school level (not saying much nowadays), and devoured everything I could find. No doubt knew more than my parents about anatomically correct names and bodily functions ;-) Later this manifested as an addiction to all things sexual, and almost total objectification of girls. It is only now, after counseling help, that I first have gotten a clue of what was happening then, and it seems like I'm having to make up lost ground, struggling to develop a healthy view of sexuality.

It's curious how my memory has focused on the visual stimuli and forgotten about the obsessive searches through written matter from an earlier age.

Wow I almost forgot that. Same deal here. Moms romance novels...how pathetic and sad looking back.
Boy you want to really mess up your views about what sex is like, or even supposed to be like, read a romance novel. Well don't it's garbage and porn, even if women won't admit it.
My mom has since trashed them....I think she finally saw them for what they are. It's nice to know, but too little too late.

Billy, maybe I am making too much of my browsing of adult fiction at this time. I certainly read many childrens' books (as a child) with no sexual content whatever.

It's funny how everyone has a moral compass, but the similiarity ends there.
I, for example, am very affected by music so I am VERY careful about what I listen to - I've pretty much walked away from all secular music. However, if I am doing poorly, you can know what I AM listening to without hearing it.
ANYTHING can be a trigger and it's up to us to be diligently honest about those triggers. It doesn't matter one bit if anyone else is affected by the same thing or now - because we ARE.
Just a thought.

Good point about music, Tropical Storm. Classical music, perhaps any musical genre has its erotic or even pornographic content.
