i found the below article very comforting even though for years i was the pain giver.

i pray all who read it will as well.

"He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." -Malachi 3:3

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God. One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.

That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained, "in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities."

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver."

She asked the silversmith, "is it true that you have to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined?" The man answered “yes…” He not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. For if the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?" He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it."

may we rejoice in His refining power,

Peter, that is, indeed, beautiful!

My thoughts have run similarly about God as the Potter.  It is not just that we need to be moldable, allowing Him to shape us, but also, once formed as He desires, without air bubbles, the vessel must then be placed in the kiln of about two thousand degrees in order to be solid bisque ware, not liable to crumble at the slightest pressure.  In many cases, the potter adds glaze and returns it to the kiln.  This functions to seal the vessel so it will not leak.  Those air bubbles I mentioned, if not worked out carefully, will cause the vessel to break/shatter in the kiln.  We may think that the pressures of His hands and the wheel are uncomfortable, but that is what prepares us for the kiln, without which we are essentially useless vessels.

what an awesome analogy,

may He continue to refine us for His glory until we get to Glory.

Thanks very much for sharing this precious article, Peter.  It has been very helpful to me.  I read it about a week or so ago, following a response to one of the urls you posted.
