I have recently mentioned my problem with feelings on the forum and how they can be unreliable. Sometimes, I can't keep the tears away and so I would like to say that God gave us the capacity to feel all sorts of emotions and they should be expressed. One only has to read John's gospel Chapter 19, verse 25 and Jesus on the cross saying to his mother and a disciple "Woman, behold thy son!" Verse 26, "Behold thy mother!" Then, of course, Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus and there are many other examples of the Lord showing all sorts of emotions. Anger in casting out the money changers from the temple, anguish in His prayers at Gethsemane. We should cry to God at times. It's part of our healing and our growth as Christians.

| I have to say it's good to hear a man say these things. In my experience, men think they have to be so macho and hold in their feelings, be practically emotionless. It's so unhealthy. There is no better example of what a real man should be than Jesus Christ. Good point.

It is the same conservative way of thinking that on one hand says its not about feelings it's about truth and obedience, that out of the other side of their mouths says you can't just have a head-knowledge you have to have a heart-knowledge of God. Excuse me? If there aren't feelings involved in this so called "heart-knowledge" then what is it?
Futile attempts at obedience without FEELING the peace and grace of God, was legalism that left me dying on the inside and hating myself. A relationship with God, like all other relationships are emotional and in nature and meant to be experienced.
Shutting down and numbing our emotional needs and feelings is what led us all into sexual addiction. We don't need to feel less, we need to feel more or in a lot of our lives, we need feel for the first time.

Alpha, all I am trying to say is that feelings alone should not be what drives, motivates our Faith in God. I don't say no to feeling. As I mentioned, the Gospel tells us about the many times that Jesus showed feelings, emotions.

Actually, I thought I was agreeing with you.
I can't use my feelings to justify or excuse my sin. But even when I do (and we all do), I shouldn't use scripture or cultural christian platitudes to deny that my feelings are real or that I shouldn't have them. When I do that, God can't reach me there, in my emotions, my brokeness and my sin - and that is the exact place that I need Him the most.

Thanks, Alpha. Apologies for not reading your reply carefully to see that in fact you did agree
