I have never really believed in the power of prayer, is there any biblical courses online that teach why and how to pray effectively?

Love,
It's not rocket science to pray. All you need is an open heart, a believing heart helps but first prayers might be from an unbeliever who is searching in the dark. This wasn't my experience, probably because I was raised in a Christian household but for some it may be necessary to say an unbeliever's prayer "God if you're there, please answer, please help."
For me, prayer is just like talking to a person I know, like a close friend. My prayers have become more fulfilled since I have begun to believe that God answers them. Before it was more a religious ritual without the assurance in the heart that God was listening.

Love&Amp,
Like G63 I was raised in a Christian home and was in church whenever the doors were open, so was around a lot praying all my life. I've heard long elaborate prayers, short prayers and prayers spoken very eloquently. It seems to me a lot of people pray and say things that they think others want to hear. I could be wrong. Anyway, there are no rules about prayer that I know of. Although Jesus did give an example in how we should pray at the sermon on the mount in Matthew chapter 6. It also tells us how not to pray.
When I pray, I go to God as He were my Father and I His child. I talk to Him as if He were right in front of me. I tell Him how I feel and what's bothering me. He already knows everything before I even get started. But this is what pleases God, for us to come before Him and humble ourselves before Him.
God has answered my prayers with my addictions and I feel His presence more than I ever have in my whole life. I believe with my sins of lust and using pornography for so many years kept God at a distance and did great damage to my relationship with Him. Praise His name. He is truly a loving and forgiving God.
