ENTIRE ORIGINAL MESSAGE EDITED.
Read my most recent reply on December 19, 2007 down in this thread about my plans to bike across America in February-April 2008.
(I edited this top message because it was confusing and irrelevant to what is happening now.)

Steve,
If you could hold off a bit, say the summer of 2010, I'll go with you. I've got my eye on this kind of a ride for my 50th. I ain't dead yet!
How can I tactfully phrase this - as far as finances, perhaps there might be an interest in the forum for some of the folks that are sick of paying $ for their "fix"... to take that $ to support your bike ride instead. They could make a short term of commitment to a vow of restraint - or better abstinence and send the money your way. Blazing Grace could handle the finances so that things would be above reproach with taxes, ethics, etc. In turn, you could keep the readers up to date on your ride and the good things that that $ could be used for, i.e. food, spare tires, side trips, more tires.....
Perhaps we could even get a bunch of folks on the forum to go along...."Pedaling for a porn free life".... That would raise some eye brows! Any donations would go to ministries that help women get out of the bondage of prostitution could be one idea.

So, who are you biking with, Steve? Is it an organized thing or a group of you or are you going solo?
HMMMM...the heart....yes, so vital!!! You know, I've been meditating on Phil 4:6-7 a lot. Often I think of this passage for those who struggle with anxiety, which I don't really tend to. This week, I was doing a study on prayer and thought and prayed through this passage again and you know what....I had this revelation that not ONLY are we to guard our hearts, BUT that the King of the universe promises to guard our hearts with His peace the passes understanding in Christ Jesus! ....that with prayer and giving things to Him, He meets us there and protects us from stumbling as we trust in Him, run to Him, call on Him....draw near to Him, etc...

Quitting? Nah. Moses had to be refined just a tad before leading the Israelites out of Egypt. Perhaps it's just your time of refinition. Cool new word, eh?

Nah, not quitting..
It's His time and not ours. I know you will be making that ride one day and I look forward to seeing the updates.

Sounds like fun.
This is something I've always wanted to do, but know that I probably will never be able to. Ever since I was a teen I wanted to either bike, or just hoof it across America. Take my time, smell the roses, and really see the country like you can't do from a window seat on a train or a plane.
Whenever you do go, good luck and God bless.

I always wanted to do it after reading the book "Freewheeling; A solo Journey Across America" by Richard Lovett but I know my health is now not up to it, but I have been blessed to do so many other things I can't complain.
Besides, peace with God is the most important part.

Well, I'm not a biker, and I'm not a guy, just an "ole lady"! But I personally hope you don't give up this vision to do this.
I can visualize a series of Blazing Grace Bikeathons... where you bike from one area to another and have a series of bikeathons with men who are willing to step out for God and join you to make a public proclamation of God's mercy, grace, and healing...
Few men could do the whole thing... but how many could participate in their OWN area?
You could blog and keep everybody updated on where you are and where you are heading... hmmmm... kinda like Forrest Gump and his jogging entourage! Hey, maybe you could even get a movie deal out of it... well, sorry... going overboard...
Anyway, I can't think of a better way to meet and encourage other men toward purity...
Will pray for you and your opportunities to fulfill your dream.

Just thought I would give an update to an old thread:
It is mid-December 2007, and this time I am actively planning to do a bike across America ride (beginning in San Diego and finishing in Jacksonville) with a start date in very early February. I pretty much said the same thing last year in the original message of this thread, but this time is a little different. I'm a little more organized, daring to break through fears and more willing to take risks.
I'm looking forward to this, but I'm also nervous. In short, it is clear that I've got to take this dream on and God has been opening doors and blessing me in neat ways towards making this happen.
Take Care,
Steve

wow steve, that sounds so great. i wish i had the perseverance to do something like that. i do 45 minutes on the treadmill every day and i hate it. if it weren't for watching tv, i wouldn't do it at all. seeing the countryside would have to be amazing though. probably make the time go by quickly. good luck! i hope it works out for you.

Are you bringing any cash, Steve, or are you going to do without and depend on people putting you up, giving you food?

Well, it'll be a combination of both. I'm doing my best to save up and work extra hard right now so I'll be financially prepared. Of course, I'll be prayerfully open to the generosity of people. I'm far from a celebrity, but I do know quite a few people in the states I'll be riding through.

Thank you Sam. I can relate to what you said about the treadmill. Right now I'm working out at the gym for about 1 to 1.5 hours per day and do a lot of cardiovascular type stuff. Watching a good TV show is the only thing that keeps me motivated to continue working out sometimes!
