I read Psalm 96 this morning, and it really blessed me. The theme I got out of it (or at least what "struck me") was how much of the psalm is an exhortation to give all praise, honor and admiration to the Lord.
There is that element of recovery that all must face of "letting go" of the delusion that one can control their life circumstances, and to relinquish one's life to the care of God. I was struck by how radical the psalm's message impressed upon my heart. Indeed, with all the stuff, junk, worries, insecurities and emotional crap I am facing, it is all the more reason to give praise to God.
In the old days, I would immediately and often subconsciously turn to "acting out" behaviors to medicate my pain. In these newer days, I've obtained quite a few tools to gauge what exactly is bothering me, and to choose new and life-giving behaviors that would better meet my needs in the moment. In that light, praising God and acknowledging His glory in the tougher moments of my day would be a very wise habit for me to adopt. It's a great challenge!
Thanks for reading.

so true, letting go and realising that you cannot control your life circumstances and relinquish one's life to the care of God is something not only important for the recovery of the addict but also the spouse/partner of one. I had to realise that my whole circumstance was in Gods hands...that I could not save my husband but God and only Him could do all things. I stopped trying to force my husband to see his sin and have left it in Gods hands and even though my husband is still walking in his ways rather than Gods I know and trust in Him fully and have had a certain peace about those steps taken to do so.
Thankyou for sharing this psalm
Blessings

| Hi Steve- My goodness how this spoke to me! I'm the wife of an addict, and in so much pain, but I give praise to God for even the ability to feel this. It is getting me through some very difficult times, as I'm so keenly aware of his presence and comfort, and the fact that He knows exactly how I feel, having experienced a human life Himself. Many prayers and blessings to you as you continue your recovery, and thank you for posting such a wonderful piece of inspiration.

What a freedom filled post! Our God is worthy to be praised, and if we dont....the rocks will cry out!
We will praise Him in the morning and praise Him in the evening, in the valley and on the mountain top!
I witnessed a leader in church who was dying of cancer, get up and praise the Lord with all his being...he was so ill he could barely walk or sing, but he lifted his praise to our God; its something i will tell my grand children, it was so powerfull.
Even in the dark valley we praise our God! He is above all circumstance!!
Glory to His name forever! Its the sweetest name we know
