I was reading a book yesterday called The Elijah Chronicles. Actually, I had started reading it because it sounded good, but I was just blown away about half way through the book when it was describing the temples to Baal. I had always thought and still do....that a spirit of Jezebel is someone coming into a church and causing trouble within the walls and the people. But, after reading it, I also realized the spirit of Jezebel can relate strongly to pornography as well. My imagination got the better of me and I can see how the spirit of Jezebel is the evil spirit that gives her intoxicating brew to the men caught in this. The temple prostitutes can be likened to the women (and men) who are willing to destroy their lives and participate in the money making end of pornography. And the temple priests who have drank of the cup and are so blinded and drugged they are willing to slash themselves to pieces and commit unspeakable acts to get their "fix".

"I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. -- Revelation 2:19-21.

Anyway, the whole story is found in 1 Kings. I just thought it was interesting the parallels I could draw between something that seems so different...but yet is so much the same. Please don't take this as some word from God as I'm just musing out loud here.

I do find it significant that in Revelation God himself announces the church will "tolerate" Jezebel. Kind of startling when I look at it in this light. Not only is the church tolerating it...they're blind to it. EEK! (Well some of them...others are doing a commendable and holy work of working to fight against all this)

That's a good point about the church "tolerating" Jezebel. When I think of all of the trashy t.v. shows and movies these days--and how many Christians unfortunately are watching them, I can see that the church is putting up with it. Many pastors, at least (including mine) are taking a stand against that sort of thing from the pulpit.
