I have spent a fair amount of time in the last few days reading and listening to podcasts about sexual addiction. For the first time I am coming to grasp the magnitude of this issue (realization #1) my spouse is grappling with. I feel the shift within me already from grief and anger to great dispair and empathy for this wounded man whom I love so much. The need to step into "fix it" mode is SO great...and this is not something *I* can fix (realization #2). I think I need to step away from the radio shows/podcasts for a bit and focus on something healthy.
So, my question to you ladies is this: What do you do to take care of yourselves? How do you start on this road to peace and forgiveness? I told my spouse I needed to buy a book so I could start studying what the Bible has to say about all of this and he laughed, saying "I remember when all you needed to study the Bible was the Bible!". But I dont know where to begin in that book. At 43 I am still a baby in my Christian walk. Im sure there is so much I should be doing to be a better ME...and that being more grounded I would be a better spouse and support partner for him. In my heart I know this has to happen if we are going to achieve any recovery from this addiction. I understand better whats happening and I dont want to sit around crying and grieving. I have such a need to do something constructive.
What have you read? Where did you start?
Cynthia
Guess I should qualify this by saying, I read the thread about books. That was mostly about dealing with his recovery, which is good and necessary. Im not just looking for that though. What about regular studies for being a better me...better wife.. knowing God?

My wife likes this book a lot, and says it helps give her peace. It is addressed completely to women.

Hi Cynthia,
I thought that The Purpose Driven Life covered a lot of ground.
http://www.christianbook.com
has more resources than one can read in a lifetime. Have you thought about getting a women's study Bible? I recently got ISBN 0310916313, NIV Women's Devotional Bible, for a friend. You can find great buys on books through
http://www.isbn.nu
which searches several sites for the best prices.
A member named Captivated gives this recommendation in another post:
""Captivating" by John and Stasi Elderedge.
It helps us understand more about our core longings as women and how we are to meet them in a way which brings healing, Life, etc.....
"
Praying for you...

| My fiance and I just started reading The Purpose Driven Life and it has helped us deal with everything going on. We read it together every night and the discussion questions at the end help us share what we are each feeling and wanting and needing. Even though the questions aren't directly related to the situation, it opens up the doors for discussion and communication.

I understand being a baby Christian at 43. I am 43 and have only been a Christian for 3 years.
I found that when I searched my study bible for everything related to healing and forgiveness, I found great peace.

I definitely need a study bible...I used to have one but have no clue where it is these days. I think that will go on my christmas list I havent read the purpose driven life, but I know a lot of people who have done that study with their churches in the last year or so. I think I can get my hands on that book fairly easily.
I did get out our Bibles and try to read some last night. Man...There is so much there and I have no clue where to start. I tend to stay in the gospels, because thats where Jesus words are recorded. It feels more authentic to me, but I know there is valuable stuff elsewhere. I did read a bit of proverbs, practical advice is something I value. Also attempted a bit of Paul's letters, but hes hard to understand sometimes.
Anyway, thanks to all for the information and responses
Cynthia
