| By God's grace I'm still hanging in there, though I found myself looking at women in my church last night. It seems my eyes a drawn to women, like magnets, because I have trained them to do so over the course of so many years. I don't plan to look, but next thing I know it's happening, like I have to do it (of course I can't use that as rationalization).

Praise God He's enabling you to withstand temptations. Is this the only aspect of sexual purity that you are battling with?

| Of late, this has been my main issue. I also find myself touching myself because of an itch or other discomfort, but then I wonder if it's because I make myself believe that's the case so I can feel good. Not that I do it for long, but it's difficult for me to know my true motive. I do need to realize it might be some time before these thoughts and feelings aren't so pervasive, but I also don't want to make light of those incidents.

Rom517mm,
The eyes can take you places you didn't really mean to go. I will say this. I, like most men, am going to look at attractive women, whether it be out in public or even in church. I think this is common to man. It's what you do with the thought after you've looked. I believe you can look at a beautiful woman and admire her beauty without lusting after her. It does take a certain amount of discipline or restraint in your mind. This is something I have struggled with most of my adult life and sometimes it is still a problem. When it happens I go to the Lord and confess. He forgives me and I become stronger for it. I know and am always aware of Gods presence when these situations present themselves. That's not to say I always do what's right. Thank God He is a forgiving God.
Dennis

It may be worth contemplating that seeing and looking are not always the same thing.

| Thank you hans & truth for helping clarify. I do my best to turn away immediately (although I have to do it often throughout the day, depending on how many women I encounter). And I do look forward to the day when it's less pervasive, though as a man I might always have some draw to a woman.

Rom517mm, everyones battle is different and I'm glad to hear you're winning on other fronts, apart from eyes.
I also avert the eyes a lot in public places but in my church which is small and has more women than men, I am not able to avoid looking at them. I don't find that lust is a problem, no more than it is when looking at my own sisters.
There is a difference between looking and what I'd call lusting.

| Guitarist, I guess it's how I look at them that troubles me. My eyes seem to zone in on sexual body parts (again, I guess, because that's what I've trained my eyes to do for so many years). And while I don't keep looking, or keep thinking about what I've seen, the fact that I'm still drawn to it troubles me. I guess I'll one day be free of being controlled by lustful impulses, and will know that when I'm looking at a woman it's not to objectify her.
