Hi new here, have similar stories to the rest of you guys, tried very hard to stop by myself but have failed with some limited success.
Some of the changes i have made to my life that i hope help me include:
Keeping my computer out of my room, keeping busy (most important for me), put an internet filter on my computer. This may sound strange but each time i get tempted i have an elastic band around my wrist which i pull and snap against me which breaks my train of thought. I also do 10 push ups if it is at home in my room. Hopefully my mind will get the message sooner or later!
Well 3 days free of porn and M will hold myself accountable here every 1-2 days.
I will overcome this!

Welcome, quen.
More power to you if the measures you're taking prove helpful to you. For me, rearranging the externals of my life didn't help as much as I had hoped. An internet filter, for example, may block the most obvious sites, but it's far too easy to gaze at other material, or find an unfiltered computer.
We act as we do because we believe that so acting will make us happy. What we really believe is apparent in our actions, not in our supposed mental commitments. If we use porn or masturbate, we do so because in spite of what we think we believe about biblical sexuality, at heart's bottom we really believe those things will make us happier. We will persist in using them as long as we see our happiness coming from that direction.
Sexual desire is not sexual in the deepest sense unless it arises from the knowledge that that other person, my wife, wants in this moment to be united with me mutually in that mode. Where there is no other person, as in p. and m., I have only a raw craving that leaves me more isolated after the excitement is over than before. Jesus teaches that we find happiness by loving God and by loving other people, i.e. by being passionately committed to their welfare. By that prescription for happiness, p. and m. fail. An egoistic journey into fantasy cannot make me truly happy.
All of this to say that the fight against p. and m. has to go deep into the heart to identify false beliefs and attitudes and to rebuild an understanding of sexuality from the ground up. Sex isn't only something we do. It's also an important dimension of what we are. To change a habit we need to undergo change in ourselves. Ultimately that's a job for God through the community of the church.
I hope you find some encouragement here.

Hey
Welcome to the group. I too have recently joined. I am enjoying the support I get from this group.
I find most of the discussion happens in the Daily Accountability Thread.
Take care

Hello Quen.
Nice to have you here. How old are you? you have so much vigor and enthusiasm in your post.
Glad to hear your resolve, and proud because you've done so much for achieving purity. Plastic armband? doesn't that hurt? you really hate this sin so much don't you?
Looking forward to hear how you Find Jesus in your quest for purity.
He is after all, the only way...
Will pray for you Quen.

Welcome, Quen. You've clearly started to be proactive about fighting this sin. God give you His strength to add to your push-ups.
