Daily,

I had a wonderful weekend with my wife.  I had quite a bit of extra stress yesterday, that I dealt with by discussing it with safe people.  It was amazingly relieving to talk those things out and be able to allow someone else to share the burden.  Yesterday was 3 weeks sober, which feels great to type.  Trying to focus on practicing healthy behavior.

Thanks MattYour daily was really an encouragement and very good to hear. I would like to share that although I have told other people about my struggle and know that I have had a real problem resisting the alure of the images of women. The problem I have had with soft porn since i was a kid is deeper than I admit. I have remained celibate for over 10 years since sex dominated the relationship with my Christian girlfriend, it destroyed our freindship and relationship, it was a heavy blow that hurt me and her deeply(few people I know understand how on earth I am still single!!). I came here because No one who I have told face to face of  my habit has ever offered support or regular encouragemet. Whenever I get stressed, unsure of things etc, etc.....the temptation is always to go off and look at pictures of naked women to escape, like today I am sorry to say. I had two years complete freedom at one point after I turned to Christ!. Matt if you could pray that  Gods Spirit will convict me truly in my heart and give me the strength to throw off this sin and listen to him more deeply this week and beyond I would be grateful. If I am perfectly honest I do feel quite alone in this. No one likes to admit that they are not strong enough....I am not strong enough...there, I said it.

Praying for you holdsworth. Just remember Jesus Christ IS strong enough. And he HAS WON the VICTORY! Praise God for that!
Yours truly,

That's great that you admitted you're not strong enough alone, holdsworth!  Praying God will also provide men....a group of some sort, beyond your expectations, where you live.  Keep looking for this.....and for men who might want this, as well.  You may have others you think aren't struggling, but are and would like freedom....AND in spite of your own struggles, you're actually further along the path than they are.  Remember, the enemy loves to isolate, but God's ability to overcome this and connect you is greater!!!  Just because you've looked and found nothing before, doesn't mean it's not there......and some may not seem supportive due to their own struggles, so they never bring it up again, so take heart.......the God of the universe wants you free and sees your heart's desire.  Glad you shared here!  Prayed for you as well! :)

holdsworth,

I did pray for you that you would feel his conviction, but also his love and restoration of your soul to what he wants you to be.  Its more about how much he loves us and wants what's best for us than that he's trying to control us.  If he were trying to control our behavior, he could and would have set it up that way.  He wants us to choose him.  He has shown us that a healthier way to live is by connecting intimately through relationships rather than pictures of women that we'll never know.  By choosing this healthier path that he's told us about, we choose him and we choose the more fulfilling road.

One other thing..

none of us are strong enough to handle it alone, which is why there are over 150 members here.  And, none of us wanted to admit that we weren't strong enough to handle it alone.

The biggest barrier between myself and God is the mirage of self-sufficiency.

wow..thanks guys. I really hope that I will find some real healthy relationships where mutual encouragement can be found. It is so easy to get discouraged because of how things have dropped off (with accountibility that is)) in the past. I am starting to think and pray about all you lot more and more and about the stuff that is being shared when I am away from here...it is a very good thing.

daily -

Today has been pretty solid as well.  I've struggled with boredom and remaining focused on work duties.  These have both been triggers in the past and I'm trying very hard to not stumble down this path again.  I need to find excitement in healthy avenues.  Sobriety remains 11-21.

Perhaps we should take this idea and come up with a long list for when there is time on one's hands....  That time can add up when less time is spent on the addiction!  I mean for the guy who quits spending two hours or so a nite at the pc looking at stuff, etc, etc... - imagine how healthy he'd be mentally and spiritually working out...or...

I'll start the list. Today I swam about 1/2 mile at the Y. That sure helped me get rid of some extra energy.

1.  Find a gym and work out often.

2. Find an indoor pool and swim laps  (I have to watch thoughts here when a cute thing jumps in the pool.) Anyway...

3. Ride a bike

4. Read a good book.

5. Build a piece of furinture

6. Do something nice for your spouse.

Just wanted to give an update...I have been clean for 2 months!!! This is such a huge accomplishment. I feel like I have beat this...but I know that I need to keep seeking after God and working on my relationship with him and my husband. Thank you everyone for all of your support and encouragement. Rachel :)

RTK,

I love the idea of starting a list of excitement alternatives, however, I'm not sure this is the thread to do it in.  I'll start a new thread in the General Discussion area.

Happy Birthday man.  How about we all celebrate with a day of sobriety.  All the best.
